Baby & Pre-School Swimming Lessons

From 2 weeks to 4 years

At SwimMania, our baby swimming lessons are designed to be fun, nurturing and educational, helping little ones develop a lifelong love of the water from their very first splash.

Our purpose-built hydrotherapy pool is always kept at a lovely warm 32.5°C+, creating the perfect environment for babies and young children to feel safe, relaxed and comfortable while they learn.

Your baby can join us from just 2 weeks old, and you’ll be amazed at how quickly they develop confidence and important water skills through our carefully structured programme.

Every course follows progressive weekly lesson plans, with each lesson introducing new activities, songs, games and skills to keep learning exciting and enjoyable. No two lessons are exactly the same, giving both parents and little ones something new to look forward to each week.

Our classes don’t just teach swimming—they also support your child’s physical development, coordination, balance, confidence and sensory awareness, while creating precious bonding time between you and your little one.

Many parents tell us their babies enjoy a long nap after swimming and often sleep particularly well on lesson days!

Whether you’re introducing your baby to water for the very first time or helping them progress towards independent swimming, our experienced team will support you every step of the way.

We can’t wait to welcome you and your little star to the SwimMania family!

Our Baby & Pre-School Classes

All of the classes below are adult and child lessons, allowing parents or carers to enjoy the swimming journey alongside their little one.

Baby Bubbles

2 weeks – 8 months

Our youngest swimmers begin their water journey in a calm and relaxed environment. Lessons focus on water confidence, bonding, gentle movement, songs and sensory activities.

Starfish

9 – 16 months

As babies become more active, we introduce new water skills, confidence-building activities and early swimming movements through fun and play.

Goldfish

17 – 24 months

At this stage, toddlers become more adventurous! We continue developing confidence, independence and early swimming techniques while keeping lessons fun and engaging.

Pufferfish – Beginner

2 – 3 years

Perfect for children who are new to swimming or still building confidence in the water. Parents remain in the pool, helping their child develop essential swimming skills at their own pace.

Pufferfish – Advanced

2 – 3 years

Designed for confident little swimmers who are becoming increasingly independent in the water. These swimmers no longer require adult support in the pool and begin preparing for the next stage of their swimming journey.

Clownfish – Beginner

3 – 4 years

Ideal for children who are new to swimming or need to build confidence before progressing into independent lessons. Parents continue supporting their child while we develop key swimming skills.

Clownfish – Advanced

3 – 4 years

For confident swimmers who are almost ready to move into our independent children’s classes.

During this stage, we gradually prepare children for swimming without their parent in the water. Some lessons are taught with parents in the pool, while others encourage children to swim independently with the support of our teachers. This gentle transition helps build confidence for the move into our Angelfish classes from around 3 years+.

Big kids Lessons

Our children’s swimming lessons are designed to help swimmers build confidence, develop excellent technique and most importantly, have fun while learning an essential life skill.

Many of our swimmers progress into these classes after completing our baby and pre-school programme, allowing parents to take a step back and watch their child’s progress from our comfortable viewing gallery. If your child is new to SwimMania, don’t worry—our friendly team will help assess their ability and recommend the most suitable class.

As swimmers progress through our programme, they will learn all four competitive swimming strokes:

  • Front Crawl
  • Backstroke
  • Breaststroke
  • Butterfly

Alongside stroke development, we also teach valuable water safety and lifesaving skills, while introducing exciting activities such as water polo throughout the year. This helps keep lessons fun, varied and engaging while developing confident, well-rounded swimmers.

All of our classes are taught in our lovely warm 32.5°C+ hydrotherapy pool, with small class sizes and highly qualified teachers and assistants providing plenty of individual support.

  • Kicking technique
  • Basic front and back swimming

Rainbow Fish

Stage 2–3

Rainbow Fish swimmers are becoming more confident and independent.

To join this level, swimmers should be able to swim approximately 5 metres on both their front and back without swimming aids, feel comfortable putting their face underwater and confidently jump into the pool.

Our Strong Rainbow Fish swimmers progress to swimming 15 metres using Front Crawl with big arm movements while continuing to improve their technique.

Dolphin swimmers have developed good confidence and technique across multiple strokes.

Swimmers at this level should be able to:

  • Perform Breaststroke using the correct arm action and leg kick

Our Dolphin classes are split into Weak and Strong groups to support continued progression.

Otters

Adult & Child Additional Needs Classes

For children who are in full-time education but still benefit from having a parent or carer in the water, we offer our dedicated Otters Additional Needs classes during the week and at weekends.

These small, supportive classes allow parents and carers to work alongside our experienced teachers, helping each swimmer build confidence, independence and essential water skills in a calm and relaxed environment.

Sharks

Independent Additional Needs Classes

Our Sharks classes are designed for swimmers with additional needs who are ready to swim without a parent or carer in the water.

To join this class, swimmers should be able to:

  • Follow simple instructions
  • Hold onto the poolside safely
  • Participate in the lesson with support from our teaching team

Sharks is a reduced-ratio class, allowing our teachers to provide plenty of individual attention while helping swimmers continue to develop confidence, independence and swimming ability.

Classes are available during the week and at weekends, making it easier for families to find a session that suits them.

A Supportive Environment for Every Swimmer

Every swimmer is unique, which is why we take the time to understand each child’s individual needs before recommending the most suitable class.

If you’re unsure which class would be the best fit, our friendly reception team will be delighted to help and guide you through the options.

At SwimMania, we’re proud to provide a welcoming environment where every swimmer is encouraged, celebrated and supported to achieve their full potential.
